Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15th to October 15th is Hispanic Heritage Month. How are you going to celebrate?
Find events in D.C. and nationwide
Read a book by a Latino/a author – recommendations for all ages (You can also check out books I recommend by clicking “LIBROS” up at the top of the page.)
Eat something! (My vote is for Julia’s Empanadas if you’re in the DC Metro area.)
Watch a movie. (My new favorite right now is Quinceñera.)
Don’t forget about documentaries. I usually catch these on T.V. The best one I ever stumbled upon was Compadre. If you ever have the opportunity to see it – SEE IT. Ya te dije.
Support the DREAM Act and Immigration Reform!
Take up a Zumba class, or check locally for other Latin Dance classes. I took classes earlier this year and loved it.
Support the creation of The National Museum of the American Latino.
Learn to speak Spanish – (totally free, and totally awesome. I’ve tried this website myself and it is top quality.)
And my favorite way to celebrate? Kiss a Latino :) (But this one is mine, get your own.)
Not enough ideas? Check out Sofrito For Your Soul – they’ll have a tip every day for the next month for how you can celebrate! ModernMami.com also has a lot of great links.
Lastly, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Surropa.com is again offering 15% off to my readers! They have a new section of Hispanic Heritage T-shirts. Check them out and if you see one you like, use the coupon code “latinaish” to get your discount. Offer expires Oct. 15th, 2010.
Disclosure: This is not a sponsored post. All opinions are my own and all links provided simply because I like them.
