Lo Mejor de 2010

Here are the most chévere things I discovered in 2010.

Comida:

Bubu Lubus
• Valentina (salsa)
• Chipotle Mayonnaise (via Maura)

Bebidas:

• My go-to drink used to be the Shirley Temple, but after drinking about a dozen virgin Mojitos in Miami, I have a new favorite.

• As for “real” drinks, Tecate & Corona are still numero uno for me.

• My cipote-friendly choice is still horchata (Salvadoran, not Mexican.)

Libros:

• Return to Sender by Julia Alvarez
The Madonnas of Echo Park by Brando Skyhorse
• My Name is Pablo by Aimee Sommerfelt

(Non-Latino Fiction picks):

• Nectar in a Sieve by Kamala Markandaya
• The Hunger Games (series) by Suzanne Collins
• The Help by Kathryn Stockett

Películas:

• Quinceñera
The Other Side of Immigration (documentary)
• The Karate Kid (Jackie Chan)

Noticias:

• World Cup in South Africa (U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A!)
• Mexico’s Bicentennial (¡Viva México!)
• Chilean Miners (¡Chi-chi-chi! ¡Le-le-le!)

Música:

(Really too many to mention, but these are the first three that came to mind)…

Espinoza Paz
Natalia Lafourcade
Crooked Stilo

(I like this video of Espinoza performing on Mun2, because it looks like the host, Yarel, has a crush on him as much as I do.)

I considered listing favorite blogs, but you can already check those out on the Link Love page, (and there’s no güey I’m choosing only three!) …That being said, I want to thank all of you who visit me here at Latinaish.com.

The very best thing about 2010 is the community I’m blessed to be a part of and all the people around the world that I consider amigos para siempre. Gracias por tu amistad – it has more value to me than an entire box of Bubu Lubus.

How about you? What do you consider lo mejor de 2010?

  1. 2010 brought my mother, sister, and me closer. We all live in different states but our cookbook/blog has reinforced a very special bond between the three of us and that alone has been very rewarding. It has been a joy working with my mom and my sister on this project and we look forward to a new year.

  2. 2010 has been a very emotional year for me, but I have to say, I’ve cyber-met wonderful people!
Virgin Mojito!!! eso es como un oxymoron!!!
No virgin Mojitos for me (per doctor’s orders jijijiji)

    • The reason the Mojitos were virgin is because when I went to Miami, I promised Carlos I wouldn’t drink. He was nervous about me going on a trip by myself – and to Miami of all places where the Latino to Anglo ratio is much to my liking ;) lol

So anyway, I behaved and had virgin drinks only.

When I got back home I made my own mojitos and found that when I added alcohol, I didn’t like it as much. Go figure!

  3. awwww me kerido espinoza paz :)

    • What is it about that muchacho? Ay papi… he’s so perfect that even his imperfections (los frenos!) son perfectos :)

  4. Love it! And, yes, Yarel did look like she has a huge crush on Espinoza. Thanks for the 2010 review Tracy! And have a wonderful new year 2011.

  5. Great list!! I LOVE chipotle mayo!!!! I read Nectar in a Sieve back in high school… really powerful!!

For me the greatest thing this year was my Juliancito, of course! and motherhood even with it’s bittersweet moments!

    • Wow, you read Nectar in a Sieve – I didn’t know it was that well known. It was really powerful as you say.

      Awh, Juliancito :)

  6. Wow! You have made me a new fan of Espinoza Paz!

  7. YouTube keeps taking down Espinoza videos :( I wish the companies that manage musicians would realize these little videos of interviews and such HELP their clients career. It’s ridiculous to tell YouTube to take them down. Look how many Espinoza fans I’ve made with the help of these YouTube videos.
