Maybe it’s a sign that I’m eating too much Mexican candy, but when I go into the Latino Market, the guy who runs the register laughs and reaches for the Bubu Lubus on the counter in the same way a bartender starts to pour a regular’s drink as soon as he walks in the door.
There is just one thing I can’t figure out. There are two cashiers who are there on different days. Both are muy amables – one is a man, the other is a woman – but somehow it seems the price comes out different depending on who checks me out. Either the hombre is giving me a “cute gringa discount” or the mujer is charging me a “stupid gringa tax”.
I’ve never asked either of them. I figure it all balances out.
Hahahaha! Omg, just recently I was going to tweet about the “cute discount”! I went for my favorite sandwich this week and got charged $8.50. Usually the same exact sandwich at the same exact place costs like $4.95…the difference? This time there was a slighty grumpy old man working behind the counter. Usually a much friendlier, younger guy is there and prepares my sandwich. I left wondering if I got overcharged or if I had being receiving the “cute chica discount” all this time! ;) As for your situation, I think it’s both…he gives & she taketh away! haha!
@ customcreative – Wow! Either you were getting quite a discount or Grandpa way overcharged you! LOL.
LOL…it is the “cute gringa discount.” BTW, it cuts both ways.
During my recent trip to El Salvador, the receptionist at this office that I went to apparently took a liking to me. While I was in the lobby waiting for my appt, she gave me candies, offered me a drink, kept checking in with me, all while others would come by and she’d dispatch them rather quickly.
I had to go back to the same place a few times. On one occasion I went alone. I think I got molested that time. LOL
@ Cheleguanaco – LOL. You think?! Have you blocked it from memory? Hee hee…
I think I need to go to therapy now. LOL
@ Cheleguanaco – JAJAJA!!! You and me both, buddy.
I love these candies too. But I must confess that I don’t buy them too often. My suegra usually passes them on to me and my kids. Fun post!!
@ lifewellblended – What a nice suegra! ;)
